In looking at some of the a/g photos here, I note quite a few of the modded 22XX based guns have no bbl band. I'm familiar with the extra set screws in the breech idea. For those that have gone this route, is it an accuracy improvement, or a cosmetic one? My platform is the 13xx pumper, so I still have a bit to think about...

I have a Crooked Barn breech which can "free float" the barrel- but the barrel band is also there (2240). There are two set screws to hold the barrel in place- and I wouldn't trust them to hold the barrel consistently on their own.
That being said, I have not actually tested it, band-on vs. band-off- but two set screws seem to be a bit flimsy all by themselves.
On this specific breech the transfer sleeve between the barrel and the valve don't ride up into the barrel- so it appears in my case this breech was designed to allow for quick/easy barrel swaps mainly- which, if there were no barrel band would be even faster/easier. |

I don't think you want the barrel of an airgun to be able to wobble around. |

I agree that a barrel band keeping the barrel lined up with the breech/sights seems to improve accuracy on a platform such as the 22XX or 13XX (keeps it from getting bumped, etc).... BUT in some cases I have found that tightening the set-screw onto the barrel actually HURTS accuracy.... I have at least one 13XX where it likes the set-screw just touching the barrel but not bone tight.... .... YMMV....
