Hey guys, I've been thinking about making my own airgun out of tubing and such.
I have an old 250psi cylinder and a 250psi compressor, so I can charge up and make it kind of pcp...
I figure I need to make a resivoir out of large pvc pipe to hold about 150psi. Then take that and have a regulator into a line, into another resivior but smaller to hold air used in taking the shot.
Have that setup attached to a barrel with a old 1377 style bolt on it. I would likely use steel gas pipe in 1/4" ID as a barrel.
1/4" slingshot ammo with a cottonswab patch.
Get a dovetail mount and weld it onto the pipe, then I can mount a scope or like a william's sight. Weld a small tip onto the end of the barrel as a front sight.
Any ideas?
Yeah!!! I know this is pretty stupid, but so what... |

I have an idea. Make one that utilizes 3000 psi.
They are way more exciting. |

Seems to somewhat contradict your sig line:

I think the idea is a novel one, if even for nothing more than the learning experience. I do believe I'd forego the "scope mount" unless mounting optics is merely for the asthetics. A Red-Dot maybe, but actual magnified optics would probably be more than a bit of optimism on your part.
Just guessing, but I'd imagine that ~250psi would work better on a larger diameter than a small one, as in, make part of your "B" plan a larger bore barrel. With enough barrel length the results might be surprising. Oh yea, I can't see a big requirement for a regulator either - 250psi sounds big, but it's peanuts in the context of airguns.
Good Luck, sounds like fun; be sure to post your results! |

PVC pipe, schedule 40 and 80, is known to burst explosively producing arrow head like shards when subjected to high pressure air. Please check this out for yourself.
I would rather one of my fellow AG hobbyists not be harmed in the advancement of the hobby.
Good luck in your efforts!

Make a barrel to screw in to a air gun from a compresser
have a hole in the top of the barrel with a hopper on it ..fill with BBs
so they feed in to the air flow...BB machine gun |

I decided 250psi, or about that, would be best because I have a compressor that maxes out 250psi. If my tank is big enough then I can regulate the pressure out into a smaller one to take the shot from. Thus not losing as much pressure. |

Schedule 40 PVC pipe 3" dia will stand 260 psi, but this is rated for water if it bursts you get wet, if you use air and it bursts you are dead. I know the rating is the same for both but the end result is diffrent. Plus you need to find a way to fasten the end plugs in.
Look up spud gun (potato cannon) on google, it might give you some tips.
Take care

I've made a PCP spud gun before, those things are awesome!
shoots a golf ball like no other... I'm guessing you have some kinda trigger in mind for it too? a "spud gun" type design commonly uses a ball valve, and thats not too accurate... |
