Slavia, in a past post, mentioned using a diamond file. That post reminded me that I needed much better and more than the single I had.

Found a 10 piece set that looks Slavia's at Harbor Freight for $6.00. Tried each file on hard Thompson shafting - all cut great!
The set Consists of these shapes: Round, Tapered round, Half round, Barrette, Crossing, Knife, Equaling, Warding, Square, 3square(triangular cross-section). All are 6" long including the small plastic handle on the shank of each. The two inches of each file's working surface is well coated with a reasonably fine grit which, on the shafting test piece, left a finish similar to a steel needle file on soft steel.
The files are Diamond Life brand & are Harbor Freight Item# 06989 and come in a see-thru plastic pouch. For 6 bucks they are a steal!

BTW, also bought a 12 pc. Needle(pattern) file set for $3.99 which so far, seem to be as good as Swiss. H.F. Item# 0468

Thanks for the reminder Slavia!

My diamond files were an impulse purchase at the Minnesota State Fair. They turned out to be pretty nice.

Kanyon:
You have confirmed my suspicion. I want to try them on both inserts and brazed carbide.

Slavia, you now have another source and item # if more are needed.
Thanks again for your reminder(mention) in an earlier post.

Best Regards,

Amigo
