| An 8-year-old shooting an Uzi. Unless the kid was living in some desert cave defending his family from marauding pirates- who'n the 'ef lets an 8-year-old play with a fully automatic gun? |

| This kind of irresponsibility costs us all. I will never understand some things. |

At first I thought it was the traditional uzi 9mm--the one from Terminator. And I wondered how a small boy could manage to keep his finger on the trigger while at the same time the gun spins around with the muzzle at his head. Seemed unlikely. But it turns out it was one of those micro uzi's, which is basically an automatic pistol! That thing could easily spin around on you like a gun slinger spinning his six shooter on his finger. Of course, this aint no Colt, it's a frickin' machine pistol.
Even for a kid, it just seems like someone accidentally shooting themselves in the head should be impossible. But yet it happened. No one wanted that to happen I'm sure. And can you imagine being the people at that scene and seeing that and having to live with that? Or being his father?
Hopefully future stupid people will learn from this. |

It doesn’t surprise me one bit, I’ve always thought the gun laws in the USA were crazy and this just confirms it.
It’s not only the fact that the kid was shooting a machinegun, but an eight year old should never have been allowed on the range anyway.

It has nothing to do with the gun laws in our country!!! It has to do with bad judjement on the range officer and on the adult suppervision! It could just as easily have happened with a 4 wheel drive ATV! In fact it does happen on ATVs many times a year and I don't hear you bitching about our ATV laws! You can not legislate your way to a SAFE world and if you did it would not be a place free men would want to live. B&B |

Woaah, no reason to be offensive! If the law would prohibited military weapons, such as an UZI (which was not developed for civilian use or recreational shooting) or put them under a more strict law, then such a thing wouldn't have happened.
Teaching a kid how to shoot, that's fine by me, but giving the kid a full auto gun, that's a whole different cake. |

Maybe a 10/22 is suitable for an 8 yo to shoot, but not a submachine gun.
If someone wanted to take me to a shooting range when I was 8, I know my mom would've been against it and would've at a minimum been very nervous about it. So can you imagine my dad showing up on my doorstep a few hours later crying and telling my mom that I actually did get shot to death that day. |

There are very strict laws in the USA pertaining to "fully automatic" weapons. The laws were being adheared to! It was simply poor supervision. Perhaps criminal or civil judgements will be in the works but please blame the adults maybe even the father if he was there, not our laws because we love our freedom and the fact that our constitution gaurantees by the 2nd ammendment our right to keep and bear arms. You guys had the same thing in your laws years ago but you let it go. If you are pleased with your law that is handy as you are living in the right place. We on the other hand will put up with the occasional accident tragic though they are they are no more tragic than a people giving up thier rights so they can live in a safe society. When living in a country that has many Muslims (15% of whome want to kill you) it is not smart to give up your gun rights, remember the terrorist will not apply for a permit for thier weapons that they plan on using against you! |

I think most muslems are law abiding citizens that come from countries where people can stick a gun up your face anyway, and I don't think that US muslems are a real thread to you. You got a bigger chance dieing from your own gun then someone else's.
He who lives by the sword will die by the sword. That's a simple cause and effect logic. |

The point I was making was that any country that allows an eight year old to shoot a machine gun legally is seriously lacking in the control of dangerous weapons. When the local sheriff says “No laws have been broken”
And the bit about “I don’t b!tch about our ATV laws!” is because I don’t hear anything about them over here.
And the last “You can not legislate your way to a SAFE world and if you did it would not be a place free men would want to live.” is a bit of a contradiction of terms.
And don’t think that by having lots of automatic weapons that you are SAFE because you are NOT. The first you will know about it is when a terrorist lets off a nuclear bomb in one of your city’s, and all the gun’s in the world did not stop the twin towers happening.
The only thing that guns do in the US is protect you from each other, the guy with the biggest gun wins.
So don't go bitching about my comments as a neutral observer.

Yes, becasue as far as I know, it is legal for anyone to shoot an automatic gun, provided the gun is legally owned by someone and you are shooting in a legal place (like a range). So even a 2 y/o could have shot it. But then you get into negligence and child endangerment, which I think applies to this situation with the 8 y/o.
But I agree that the real issue here was with poor supervision, rather than anything being inherently bad with firearms. Of course guns are dangerous, but so are many other things. If handled responsibly though, they should be safer than most other things--ATVs for example. |

| Another way we all pay for this...tragidy. On a shooting sight and already the cries for more supervision from the government have started. Because, you know, they do everything else so well. More laws are not the answer, responsibility is. |
