Looking at my first pistol scope (other than a red dot). My eyes are not great so I've been thinking of trying something with a 2 or 2.5 magnification. Most of the pistol scopes (under $100) define their 'extended eye relief' as being 8-11 inches (give or take a little). Now I don't know about you, but when I'm shooting the pistol - that scoop is going to be more like 20 inches away from my eye. Seems like those scopes are going to useless to me unless I'm not getting what they mean by eye relief. Thoughts? That's what I expected to hear on that topic. Now, if anyone still looks at this thread.... Is their a reasonable priced, magnified, pistol scope that can be used on a pistol held at arms length???? NcSTAR has several options, as do a few others, all marketed as pistol scopes but the longest eye relief I've seen is ~ 14". I'm thinking 20-22 is where I need to be but I'm not interested in buying a $300+ scope. They typically have longer eye relief ratings. My eye's aren't what they used to be. I like shooting 5 and 10 meter with the pistol but have terrible results with the peep sights. I have a BSA red dot from Wally world and now that the battery is almost dead I'm finding that I can see through the dot to a half inch bull at 5 meters. At 10 it covers most of the next ring too. I put fresh batteries in and just couldn't use it - large irregular fuzzy oval 'dot'. I'm hesitant to waste more money on inferior red dots. I'm fine with crosshairs.... but that's turnng out to be either expensive or barely usable. I have no dreams of real competition but I shoot with a couple of folks who have high dollar match pistols. I have my Beeman P17 and just picked up a barely used P3 for a steal (you should have seen the guy try to cock the gun - I thought he was was going to pop a vein). Not the best for comp style shooting but fun. Also, I'm buying my father a Crossman 2300S for xMass and was thinking about getting one for myself to set up primarily for 10m targets. Even though the one from pyramid comes with what is supposed to be 'good' sights (Williams?) - I fully expect to want a scope. I have the BSA red dot. Works but not impressed. So I was a little leary on their other products. I was hoping for a magical revelation on the perfect pistol scope for $75.... cw -- I'm going to have to give the cross arm stance a try. If maginification helps me keep up with my friends (in an informal way) then maybe a 2-7 with shorter eye relief may be great. Just trying to preserve some of the norms and still keep pace with these guys. My arm is fairly steady. I just can't SEE what I'm pointing at (either the red dot wipes it out or it just gets too blurry). I could probably solve part of this by getting glasses but in everyday life my contacts serve me exceptionally well.
