What will tuneing my airgun entail ?
The airgun is tested for accuracy , velocity and trigger pull.pretune and documented .
Then the airgun is disassembled and cleaned up and degreased ..then inspected ..the seal is inspected and the spring is inspected all the moveing parts are individually inspected for wear and/or damage .
the barrel is cleaned and the crown inspected ..a pellet is pushed down the barrel to detect tight spots and the choke.
The metal work begins ...the slots are deburred all the sharp edges are taken out and smoothened and polished , the piston is deburred and polished , the spring is either OK'ed as being useable or replaced with an OEM Diana Weihrauch or custom aftermarket Like a James Maccari spring .
The spring is first prepped ..the very sharp last edge of the spring wire is rounded off useing a dremel ..then the spring ends are polished to a mirror shine .
The seal is replaced ( as needed ) with either an OEM , or custom JM seal .
the spring guides are checked for fit to the new spring and either custom guides made or a shrink tube is used to make a tighter fit ( depending on budgetary constraints )
The optimum spaceing wieghting is reached and the addition of thrust washers to alleviate twisting .
The gun is lubricated , 4 types of lubricants are used some are mixed and blended according to a particular use ..this can take 1.5 - 2 hrs .
The trigger is lubricated and adjusted ( additional trigger polishing and reworking is optional )
The gun is assembled , the stock screws are locktited useing blue removeable Locktite ..to prevent them coming loose from recoil and ruining accuracy .
The Gun is cleaned from any traces of lubricants ..useing Goo gone
that leaves a nice clean gun with a citrous scent
The Gun is retested for velocity , accuracy , and trigger pull ..the gun is rezeroed and different pellets are tested to allow for fuel less numbers
The gun is then issued a certificate detailing the work done , the pre and post numbers the items replaced .
The exposed metal parts of the gun are treated for corrosion resistance .
The gun is packed ..and ready for its owner to pick up or me to ship |

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS **UPDATED**
1- will you tune my non PAL gun to PAL specs ? only if you have a PAL
and will register it .
Your non pal gun is often doing considerably less than 500fps ...unfortuneatly 495 doesn't always mean 495 it means less than 500 which can be 320fps ..so even non pal guns can benefit to be brought up to specifications .
2- my gun already does 1000fps ..how .can it benefit from a tune?
a)Your PAL gun is often touted by the manufacturer as a 1000fps gun ..they often do not state the wieght or type of pellets used .
It is a very competitive market and they will often use very light wieght pellets to give velocity numbers ..to try to level the playing field .
The muzzle energy is a much more accurate measure of performance .
99% of 1000fps guns shoot between 750fps-850fps useing 8gr pellets
b)your gun will also become much smoother to operate , it will be more pleasureable to shoot , and often more accurate ..it will also last longer .
The use of the proper lubricants will eliminate deiseling ...a MAJOR CAUSE OF SPRING BREAKAGE , and the polished and lubricated parts will wear much longer .
3- after my gun is tuned will I need to lubricate it ? or put oil in the chamber ?
You will not need to lubricate the internals again ..they are lubed till the next rebuild or tune ...and definately no oil in the chamber as this will cause deiseling and spring damage , the links and detent need a drop of oil or oil/ molly mix every 250 rds .
4 - will useing heavier pellets give me more power or make my gun more suited for hunting ? NO
a heavier pellet in a spring gun will put uneccessary strain on the spring
as there will be considerable amount piston bounce and resistance causeing early spring failure ..in .177 one should use 6gr -8.5gr
in magnums like the Diana 48 or 350 magnum 10.5 gr to keep it subsonic and accurate .
In .22 one should use 12gr to 16 gr pellets .
often SPRING guns generate MORE POWER with LIGHTER pellets that fit well .
co2 and HPA guns DO GIVE MORE POWER with heavier pellets as they are not restricted to a short power pulse like the spring guns .
5- Can I dry fire my gun ? You should not attempt to dry fire a spring gun some manufacturers advocate that it is safe to do so ...and some guns have the build to withstand an accidental dry fire or two , but repeated dry fire will damage the piston seal and /or the spring ..a definate no no for magnum guns.
6- can I use cleaning pellets to clean my barrel ?
a pull through would be better to clean the barrel and protect the crown ,
If you want to use a cleaning pellet ..put a lead one behind it ..to prevent dry fire type of damage ..and remember to shoot in a safe direction !.
7-My gun does 550fps in .22 can I put in a bigger spring to make it shoot at 1000fps in .22 ?
Generally speaking there is more to tuneing an airgun than installing a larger spring .often the power developed depends on the 'swept volume'
of air in the receiver ..the more air in your airgun the more power it can make ..so in some guns even if it were possible to install a larger spring the excess kinetic energy in the piston will have no air to cushion it and will result in piston slam and the power is wasted ..so hold off on the F150 spring
8- My gun shoots ok but I am getting vertical stringing ..and some harshness ..what can be wrong ?
Your gun may have sealing problems , this should be addressed without delay ..as repeated use in this state is like a dry fire , if your gun is a HW 77 OR HW 97 the breech seal should be checked and changed or shimmed as needed every 1,500rds or so , this can be done without disassembly .
9-My gun shoots low for 5-6 shots and then the shots climb higher ..is this normal ?
Yes it is normal ..as the lubes and seal warm up it takes 5-6 rds ..then velocity should be very consistant .If it takes longer or shows extreem changes in cold weather ..you may have the wrong lubes in your gun
( or wrong for your specific use )
10- should I Ship the scope on the gun ? NO
You can remove the scope ..it will be removed before the tune anyway and will need to rezeroed after .
11-what Type of tunes do you offer ?
I offer 3 types of tunes ...
The BRONZE PACKAGE ....
This is the "must for all new spring guns" tune .Gun is dissassembled
the Factory grease is cleaned out to prevent uneccessary deiseling .
the factory seal is inspected for assembly damage .
the Gun is deburred and the cut outs ramped to prevent damage on installation of seals . the factory spring is used the spring ends are rounded and polished .
a crosshatch pattern is Created in the chamber to hold the lube ..
and 4 custom lubes are applied includeing DC M 77 and others .
The bronze package is done once and costs $49.99
The SILVER PACKAGE ....
This is the "Pay for what you use tune " it provides flexibility and economy .If your spring fits well on your guide ..you may not need a custom guide , if your seal is in good condition ..there is no need to replace it ...this is more money in your pocket .
The gun is degreased ..and old varnished lubes are cleaned out .
the seals are inspected and replaced if needed , the spring is replaced with a custom aftermarket spring if needed ,your choice of Maccari or other aftermarket or OEM spring . the gun is deburred as needed ..and the chamber crosshatched and 4 types of lubes applied Includeing DC M 77 . the piston is wieghted and thrust washers are added .
The factory guide is used .
the silver package is done to revitalise and rejuvinate a quality made gun that has seen some use Or upgrade a new gun to higher specs . $85 plus parts
The GOLD PACKAGE ...
This is the Gold Standard tune "I want all new aftermarket components " tune The gun is disassembled and degreased
the gun is then deburred as needed .The chamber is crosshatched, 4 types of lubes are used .The spring and spring guide and piston seal are replaced with custom Maccari parts( or OEM as needed ) as well as the tophat where applicable .
The trigger is lubed and adjusted , the piston wieght is adjusted and thrust washers are installed where applicable .
the GOLD PACKAGE can be done to a new gun or a used gun ..to bring it to a maximum in performance and shooting behaviour .
Price is quoted on an individual basis depending on gun ..and is booked in advance .
12-What kind or WARRANTEE do you give on your tunes ?
All tunes come with a One Year parts and labour Warrantee from the date on your tune certificate , that covers any parts I have installed as well as labour costs . If you have any concerns all you need is to PM me or email me .
13- how long is the turn around time ..I will be in your area for 2 hours
is that enough to get a tune done ?
Generally the turnaround time varies according to the amount of workload and the type of work that needs done ..but the guidlines are from 2 weeks to 4 weeks are the norm ...and FIRST IN FIRST OUT IS THE RULE ..in the 2 hrs you can drop it off .
14 - The price you quoted me for a bronze package tune $85 ..does that include shipping to my address ? No It does NOT ..any shipping or transportation will be extra ..if you live close by you are welcome to pick it up
15- what Airguns do you tune ..? I have a Xisico B4 2a a B3 1 and a B1 and B7 will you tune my guns ?
I will tune guns that are Made to precise dimensions and made with hardened steel ..and whos Importer support their products with parts .
That would Include: Wiehrauch ,Webley, Air Arms , Walther, FWB's , Dianas,CZ and some Gamos and some others these 4 guns do not enjoy that level of Manufactureing or parts support .
I will still provide Kits for them ..you can DIY tune them.
16-I have an older quality made gun that will need a tune and may need a spring to be rebuilt , can you tune it for me ?
Yes , in cases like that I will search for or custom make the part for your gun ( if it needs it )
17-my question has not been answered ..how can I reach you ?
You can pm me or email me at oamr1@hotmail.com
Regards ,
Frank |

I met with Airbuddy a few days ago to have my Gamo CFX and IZH-61 tuned up.
I was very impressed at his work. Both air rifles were ready the next day.
My gamo cfx had a broken spring and now it's like brand new The IZH-61 was properly lubricated and is working much smoother.

Hi..
I have both 634 for hunting squirel and it was a SLAVIA..lolll. The first time i open the slavia it was dry ..VERY DRY!!!!! Even when i pull out the device that hold the mainspring ..the spring stay in place... . And when i was trying to cock the rifle ..sometime it was hard..(jam)..After a few E-MAIL (400 UNDREDS..LOLL)... to Frank(AIRBUDDY3)..I decide to send him the rifle..I just received the rifle today..OH AMAZING..not the same rifle...The 634 was suppose to do 800FPS(factory)..The first chrony was at 660 fps before tuning... and 750 FPS after tuning...
So..i have made a good choise in choosing Frank tuning...
SORRY FOR THE SPELLING...YOU DONT LIKE THAT..DONT READ IT...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just got back my Diana 24 in .22 cal back from Airbuddy3 after a "silver tune". It chronyed at 360 fps from the factory which sucks. Now after a silver tune it's doing 485 fps and is so accurate at 40 yards I can shoot the nuts off a tit mouse at that distance. If you guys are looking for an awesome tune airbuddy3 is just a PM away.
thanks airbuddy3,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After jumping around from one site to another, I found what I was looking for from someone on this site who was reasonably close by...A person who could tune my three air rifles.
That person is Airbuddy3!
Over the past 3 or 4 weeks, he has tuned each of my rifles (a .22 and two 1000's) to now be more powerful, sooo much more quieter and consistantly more accurate! All three triggers are now crisp and smooth with 2 to 2 1/2 lbs pull.
I couldn't be happier with the results he has given me. Let me tell you, we are darn lucky to have someone with his knowledge and expertise in the Toronto area!!! And his willingness to meet at most any hour of the day is a blessing too! (As I am a shift worker worker who would have to travel an hour to meet up).
I highly reccommend Frank to anyone thinking or wanting their AG's tuned up.

Posted: Mon Jul 23, 2007 9:51 am Post subject: airbuddy3 tuned HW97K rifle scores 2nd National FT event!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I just placed 2nd at the Canadian National Field Target match and I owe a big part of my success to the hard work done by airbuddy3 to get my HW97K tuned to perfection. Simply put, airbuddy3 has the knowledge, skill and patience to take a spring piston rifle and tune it to shoot as good as that rifle can possibly shoot.
My goal with this rifle was perfection, which is near impossible to achieve from a spring piston rifle, however I can say with confidence the tune airbuddy3 performed achieved this. He had the best components to begin with when he started this tune -I had replaced the internals with the worlds best and tuned it myself as far as I could- but components alone cannot guarantee a rifle's success.
It takes a whole lot of knowledge and experience to be able to tune a spring piston rifle to perform its best throughout a wide temperature range (and by best I mean most accurate, not most powerful, after all what good is power if you don't hit what you're aiming at?) and airbuddy3 is one of the rare people who have the knowledge and experience required to accomplish this.
After I replaced the original components and performed my own tune (I have a bit of experience in tuning spring piston rifles and understand the inner workings and theory of a the spring piston rifle well) I was not getting the results I knew the rifle was capable of.
I was prepared to ship my rifle to the UK for it to be tuned, but after speaking with airbuddy3 I thought I would give him a chance with it first, and boy am I glad I did. It took a few iterations of tuning with testing after each attempt, and airbuddy3 was very prompt and professional in each case, and the results he achieved are outstanding.
Yes I placed 2nd, not 1st, but both the 1st place and 3rd place shooters were using very expensive recoilless spring piston rifles, and both gentlemen are established Field Target competitors who have both achieved repeated international success and have been competing for several years. This is my first year competing, and the shots I missed were due to my inexperience, not the rifles inaccuracies.
I can honestly say that airbuddy3 is one of the best spring gun tuners in the world. period. There are only a handful of others that I know of who could achieve the level of perfection airbuddy3 can with a spring piston rifle. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated tuner living in Canada |
