Two more things, one simple and one not so simple:
I'm sure that the designers of this gun said: "Let's make the muzzle brake setscrew heads really sloppy, so the user won't have to buy ball-end allen wrenches - the tool will enter at any angle. And it won't matter that the tool slips in the head, because we'll make the threads so sloppy that it can't be tightened anyway." I'm sure that's what they said. I BOUGHT NEW ONES.
I also choked (and re-polished) the barrel by 0.0006" - a little more than half a thousandth. This paid off; accuracy is much better than before. The gun now seems to prefer 8.3 grain RWS Superdomes. I lost 4 FPS (down from 895 to 891), but it seems like a good trade. This five-shot group is at 10 meters from a rest with Superdomes:

They probably did. Ever check the price of those two set-screws from Crosman? $5.00 per! Chinese engineering at it's best and most economical. |

That's pretty outrageous. I paid $0.43 each at Charlie's Hardware of Waseca, Minnesota. Granted, I spent some time modifying them - I removed two threads' worth to shorten them. But I could have used them as is. |

For anyone with the same issue- they are M5 x .3 screws- which are not easy to find- the closest fit is an M5 x .5 (thus why 2 threads need to be removed).
When I hit that Crosman price awhile back, I went and shortened some generic units as well! |

A few posts back CW asked about accuracy with the bipod. At that point, I had to remove the bipod to cock each shot, since there wasn't enough clearance. That gets old quick, so it's fixed now. (This bipod is a type that mounts on the sling swivel stud.)
The barrel swings through almost 140 degrees of arc. Even though the bipod is mounted fairly far back on the stock, there was some interference.
The clamping screw had a big fat rubber-coated head, like the ones on the legs. I put in a regular socket head screw. I removed as much metal as I dared, moved a pivot point, and finally cut a notch out of the vinyl sleeve on the barrel. It cocks, but I haven't destroyed the ability to migrate it to another gun. The vinyl sleeves over the leg springs dampen vibration. It doesn't matter what gun I use the bipod with - pull the trigger and you get an annoying sproingggggg. Not now.
Accuracy with the bipod is about what I reported before. These are five shot groups at 10 meters:
Maybe I need to lower my standards - I just found a clipping from "American Rifleman" reviewing a Gamo Nitro 17. They said a 1.60" group at 10 meters was "more than acceptable accuracy" (December, 2006 p. 63). This is stellar compared to that!
Finally, I aligned the blinder holder. The holder is simply a scope ring mounted sideways. I look on the Walmart clearance rack during the off-season for cheap rings with thumb nuts. The fixture is a bit of aluminum strap with a paper clip, and the blinder panel is from an antifreeze jug. Roy of this forum and I have been discussing the relative merits of black vs. white for years, but I still like black.

A model 245. I think I bought it in 1977, and it outlived a Ryobi rotary tool. I guess I got my money out of this one.

Next time I am down at the shop... I am going to have to check my Dremel to see if it was made in Mexico... I know the flex shaft is made in China... It's junk... |

Cool, an American made Dremel. Have you ever replaced the brushes?
are they replacable in that model. Do you remember the price back
then? I'm a virtual fountain of questions, Arn't I?
I really like the flexshaft. Even though I've gone through 3 in the
last two years. |

I like them too... the one I have is just junk... It is almost done...
My buddy at Auburn Tool now carries a better flex shaft than what I have. As soon as this one is done... Maybe Mrs. Santa will bring me a new one...
My favorite accessory for my Dremel is my foot pedal...
Press on and press off... |

I have never tried the flex shaft.
I have never replaced the brushes. They are not replaceable from the outside, at least. I couldn't say if they can be replaced by taking it apart.
If I remember correctly, it cost me $30.00 in 1977. It came with a plastic case and a dozen bits. 95% of my work is with an abrasive cutoff wheel. My son has a newer variable speed model, but it's bigger and doesn't fit in my hand like this one.
In cold weather it's really stiff until it warms up (a lot like me). It is developing a healthy appetite for oil these days, too.

!!! I got a Dremel in 1998- a year later I had to replace the brushes and I think I used it maybe 20 times in that year. I don't think I've used it 20 times since then. Maybe I'll check where it was made... |
