Air Gun Home Forum Index » Pellets/Ammo » Pellet Holder Goto page 1, 2  Next    View previous topic :: View next topic  Pellet Holder   Posted: Sun Jul 06, 2008 4:18 pm Alstone Moderator & Site Supporter Joined: 01 Mar 2007 Posts: 4139 Location: Linconshire, ENGLAND I’m always on the lookout for ways to hold pellets ready for shooting, and I have seen one particular type that fits to the butt and is a rubber pad that you press the pellets into holes ready for use, I like the idea but the pellets fall out, the skirts get damaged or bent when pulling the pellet out, so this is my solution to this problem. All you need to make this holder is a piece of polyurethane of the same type as is used for wharehouse doors so that forklifts can crash through 3mm thick or something similar as long as it is pliable, a piece of plastic or aluminium for the base, a cone cutter and a piece of aluminium rod 5mm dia. The holder works by holding the pellet by the skirt end with only the nose of the pellet sticking out, this protects the skirt and holds the pellet loosely but secure, it will not fall out on it’s own and is very difficult to knock out, also the pellet nose is very easy to hold when removing a pellet for firing, I have used this holder in the field and never lost or damaged a skirt yet even if you bash it against a tree. The size can be any thing you like but I find that it works best with nine rows of four, start by cutting the holes, use a drill press and practice on a piece of scrap to get the hole size right, from the large end of the hole the pellet should push through very easy but be very difficult to pull back, next you need to make four holding pins one for each corner these are shaped like a pellet with a stub on the bottom to fasten then on to the base, these can be made in the drill press using a file and emery, the whole lot can the be fastened to the butt with “Velcro” or a rubber band etc. Have fun Al Last edited by Alstone on Mon Jul 07, 2008 7:34 am; edited 1 time in total _________________   Posted: Sun Jul 06, 2008 5:15 pm broommaster2000 Moderator Joined: 10 Mar 2007 Posts: 5714 Location: City of Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands Hey Al, why don't you put it more down the stock, or will that ruin the nice pattern you got on there? _________________ BIG GAP   Posted: Mon Jul 07, 2008 3:34 am Alstone Moderator & Site Supporter Joined: 01 Mar 2007 Posts: 4139 Location: Linconshire, ENGLAND broommaster2000 wrote: Hey Al, why don't you put it more down the stock, or will that ruin the nice pattern you got on there? It would get in the way when shooting where it is now suites me, I did think about making a single strip to run along the top of the pattern, I might have another look at that. By the way the plastic I used was polyurethane not as I originaly said Neoprene. If you want to make your own then the clear plastic for the holder is the same type as used on strip doors in factories and super markets for fork lifts to go through, the base can be anything you like.
