I have made many silencers for different guns over the years and it still surprises me at the bad quality of some add on silencers, nearly all are made for .22 so are very inefficient for .177 and even then they make the bore larger than necessary to accommodate bad fitting, misalignment etc. another problem with commercial airgun silencers is that in multi baffle unit’s the baffles are to thin which is all right with rim fire, powder burners etc, but 99% of airguns use Diablo pellets so to be of any use the thickness of the baffles need to be at least the distance from the head of the pellet to the skirt, then you get no blow by when the pellet is half way through the baffle, and if the baffle is a very close fit to the pellet less gas can overtake the pellet before it reaches the exit point of the silencer, which is a problem that causes instability in some silencers.
You hear people saying that if you fit a silencer the poi will change, well if it does then you have a bad silencer the poi should stay the same; a good silencer should make no difference to the flight of the pellet. So with that being said I decided to experiment with my TX 200HC, with it being a carbine you don’t want 250mm of silencer hanging on the end, to start with I bought an AA silencer to fit the HC which worked all right but was heavy and inefficient and made the gun longer than a standard TX, plus as I am using a .177 and it was bored out to take a .22 there was a lot of blow by in the silencer, also with a springer you cannot get rid of the noise from the action, so there is all ways noise there.
With the above being said the criteria I required for my TX-HC was small size and capable of taking the sound of the compressed gas down to bellow the sound of the action, what I finished up with is a silencer 75mm long (3“) and 20mm dia (¾”) this when fitted looks like part of the barrel and silences the TX down to the same level as when fitter with the standard AA silencer.
The silencer is made of a solid piece of 20mm dia steel, if you decide to make one of these use steel and machine from solid, I used 25mm dia and machined it down to size to make sure that all surfaces were square, the most important thing about this silencer is the accuracy of the machining, next I turned the stub for the thread and centred it and drilled a 5mm hole 25mm deep, the thread needs to be machine cut, you will not get the accuracy with a die, when that’s done flip it over in the chuck and bore it out to 18mm 67mm deep, and that’s the main part finished, next comes the end cap I did intend to thread this as well but I seem to have mislaid my internal thread cutting tool, so this was made as per drawing and is secured with a 3mm grub screw, the end cap needs to be bored out to 5mm also a very good fit in to the silencer body.
I should point out that this silencer work on a TX-HC will also work on a standard TX as for other springers providing they have a machine cut thread for a silencer it will also work. To test this silencer I used AA fields 4.52 which give just over 2 tenths of a mm clearance .177 at 11 flb, this will also work with .22 just increase the bore to 6mm.
Please don’t ask me to make one for you as I get fed up after making one.

| Very cool mini. If I ever run across a TX that tickles me, this solution looks small enough to actually work with a transport case that doesn't require a full length station wagon. |

I might add that, even though the Weihrauch silencers are fairly large, they are very good. I have a friend who owns a CZ200 FAC (great rifle up to 100 meters, as a matter of fact, it won a match against more powerfull and supposed to be accurate rifles at the last shoot I was at with pretty nice groupings. Tightest groupings, and it had flyers).
To get back to the silencers, the Weihrauch silencers reduces the noize to pretty much nothing, and you'll only hear the sound of the mechanics. |

It only work properly on a TX J, due to the fact that it allready has the makings of a built in silencer, so with this coupled on the front it completes the job very well.
As for Weihrauch silencers Anton they are very good, in fact one of the best but they are big, and as you say all you can hear is the mechanics of the action, so all this silencer has to do is reduce the report noise to below the action noise which isn't too difficult, but doing the same thing on a PCP gun would require more volume and length which is what the Weihrauch silencer has.

I totally agree with you, that it's big.
The latest version also does great on most high powered small to medium bores. |
