| I like to use a scope- my eyes aren't what they once were, so open sights beyond 5m just don't work for me anymore... |

I use whatever sight suits the gun.
Red Dot on my Rohm Pistol, peep sight on the Winchester, Scope on the TX200. the others I swap around a bit.
Like Eric iron sights give me eye strain after a while.

Yeah, I don't know, I have resisted scopes forever, I never could really warm up to them, they just seemed so jittery when you looked through them, but now I'm starting to warm up to them.
I got this new Talon coming that would do well with a scope, I already have the IZZY for my pistol (would love to upgrade that one), and the Avanti 753 as my 10m aperture/peep sight rifle, so having a scoped rifle would be pretty sweet. Plus I guess the Talon can really get out there and that shots at 40 yards are not unheard of, so maybe that scope would come in handy!
The IZZY is such a great pistol, but just really heavy in the nose! I will eventually upgrade that one to a PCP pistol, but for now it is quite nice.
The Avanti is nice, a great starter rifle, but someday, I'd love to have a killer PCP true match rifle.
I do still have my eye on "the Edge" from Air Force, but we'll just have too see how this Talon treats me!
Sorry, I'm just rambling...

I use to be an iron sight man, more trust worthy than a scope IMO, but old age is creeping up on me also, therefore the scope.
I still shoot with iron sights at short distances but for our target shoots here and the little dots, I need a scope as I can't see the dots clear enough for me. I should try a peep sight again as it seems to make the picture clearer sighting through one of them if I remember correctly.
Scopes have come a long way since I bought my first one. |

Yeah, well I guess I'm diversifying! : )
My eyes are surprisingly still pretty good, thank God.
For normal 10m air rifle targets, the peep is great.
For normal 10m air pistol targets (B40), the irons are great also.
For our competition here, I'm good with iron sights at the 5m mark with a pistol, but everything falls to pieces in a real hurry, when I try to do ANYTHING with those tiny dots and irons or peeps.
So, hence the scope. Actually, you're right Mar, today's scopes are pretty sweet, so I'm beginning to look forward to it and embrace it to some extent!

I just bought a couple of Leapers scopes, they seem like pretty decent scopes for the money though I like my Rex the best so far. The pistol scope I have is not the best, may upgrade someday but it'll do for now.
Funny thing about the peep sight though, that's what I use on my bow and I've been shooting that baby for over ten years now, still deadly with it. |

Crosman Quest ,Full Mod .20 Cal. Leapers 3X9X40 Full AO Red-Green Illum
RWS 48 JM tuned .22 Cal Barska 6X24X42 AO Varmint
Sheridan .20 Cal C9 Pumper Full Mod CenterPoint 3X9X40 AO mil dot.
XS-B3-1 .177 Cal Fully Modified 6X32 Red-Green Dual Illuminated Reticle
The old eyes don't work so good anymore.I'm good with iron sights out to about 15 meters maybe 20 but thats stretching it if were talking about a 1/4 inch bullseyes on a paper target.Soda cans ,poker chips and stuff like that (plinking) I am good to about 75 ft . I would very much like to try a peep sight,I looked thru one and could actually see everything very clear and sharp. But they cost damn near as much as a decent scope.

I think I've said this before, but for a airgunning site most of the members seem to be partially blind, what we need is a sound emmiting target, then we can shoot towards the noise.

John, I have an Airforce Edge on order from the factory. At first they said they would be shipping in April. I just got an e-mail from them and due to a delay they are now expecting to ship in late May or early June! Yikes! I don't even know if a scope will be mountable on one! Guess I'll keep black powder shootin' til it comes, unless ya'll wouldn't mind me using my old (1954) Daisey Red Ryder in the target shoots here. LOL |
