I sold an airgun to a guy on the yellow forum once.
The gun was in like new condition. He shot it for a few
weeks and reported back that it was very accurate
and in good condition.
About 4 weeks latter he e-mails me that he had taken
it apart and broken one of the stock screws off in the
action. I told him "That's too bad, send it to me and I will
fix it". I even offered to give him all of his money back
in exchange for the gun.
He wrote back saying that he was going to keep the
gun and fix it himself, but demanded $200 from me
to make it right . I told him that that was ludicrous.
He then went on the yellow forum and had all of
his buddies there give me a bad time, bad mouthing me
and flooding my e-mail with nasty messages. I had to go
to the authorities to get them to stop. I even tried to reason
with eveyone on that juvenile forum, but they sided
with him and scolded me for selling him a gun that
had a week stock bolt (how was I to know that it
would snap? My ESP was on the blink that day). I told
them that if he sent it back to me I would give him ALL
of his money back, but they didn't think that would be fair
to him.
That's when I washed my hands of the whole fiasco and
have had no corespondence with any of that lot since.
So there you have it. I tried to be fair to them, but
they just wanted to work me for as much money as they
could. He even threatened to come here and shoot me.
That's when I went next door and told my neighbor (The
police chief) exactly what had happened and showed him all of
the corespondence. He went to the courthouse the next day
and a few days later the harassment stopped. I'm always fair
in my transactions and it really pissed me off to have some
dirtbags try to work me for money and then make like I tried
to rip them off. If he was unhappy with the deal, he should
of given me the gun back for a return of his money and not
try and change the original ageed on deal.
I have bought and sold many airguns since then with no problems
at all. Everythings alright as long as I don't go near the yellow
forum. No ones tried to rip me off if I stay away from the yellow.

To bad. That's where I contacted the guy I traded for the 622X. Things went ok for me, but I'll probably steer clear now.

It was midieval. I kept my HK right by our bed
for a month after that. I had some heavy Elk
loads in it all ready for him.

While I am not speaking specifically of any one forum- the problem is that on any forum, when the owner/operator is doing it primarily "for the money" and little else, they tend to get a bit full of it. At least one forum, which shall remain nameless, has in it's posted "charter" that it exists for the purpose of airgunners exchanging information, resources and ideas in an open environment, etc. etc. Yet, when someone comes along with "resources" they don't like- i.e. other forums or technology not to their mindset- people get shut down, booted out, threatened etc. When a favored vendor on some forums has a business deal go bad- the person who is involved in the deal that is not the one favored by the forum administrator, they tend to "disappear" or be bad-mouthed until they leave. At least one forum was held together by its "new" owner by stealing its ownership from the prior owner's widow, who was obviously not very "web savvy".

Another forum that existed, and is now defunct- so I think I can name it, the Talon Owners Group- was driven under by its new owner (who purchased it quite legally and above-board from its previous owner) by, in my opinion, extreme ego problems. Anyone not agreeing with their point of view on things was criticized, berated, and eventually banned and all their posts deleted. Finally, when a newer Talon forum appeared and most of the long-time members left, the new owner decided to close the place down, blame everyone else for the issues and (apparently) go away. Heck, after it was shut down, I emailed the guy and offered to operate the forum, at my expense, and let him hang around to stroke his ego- but never got a response back. Any talk about providing "resources" to the airgun community that might have been mentioned on that forum were obviously not honest, in my opinion, if these things were in contradiction to the new owners real mindset or intentions (which, apparently, just about everything was in contradiction to the new owners mindset).

Some forums also just aren't producing anything "fresh"- it's the same old crowd with the same old mindsets- anything new doesn't sit right, and the old-timers just start shooting from the hip with criticisms, naysaying and so on.

This forum was created because of the other airgun forums out there, that, IMO, were not doing a good job of information flowing freely due to stale mindset, extreme ego issues of the owners, and/or re-acting to things more out of paranoia and greed than anything else.

This, by the way, does not apply to all forums out there- many of the forums out in the world are good places to find information and gather resources, meet and communicate with fellow airgunners and exchange ideas. Unfortunately, there are a few that aren't like that- they are just large and/or have existed for a long time (i.e. they have 'history') and still exist despite themselves, not because they are doing a whole lot "right".
