I'm wondering how many grains a .177 bb is. Also, how much an average .22 cal pellet weighs?
My stupid idea of the day is to reload my Gamo Express shotgun shells with 3 bb's instead of the dustshot they normally come with. I'm thinking that three bb's are about the weight of a heavy .22 cal pellet so it shouldn't have a problem propelling them. |

| The Dillon scale shows 5.2 grains for a .177cal steel bb. |

So yeah, then 3 bb's weigh less than a .22 cal pellet. Which means in "theory" my gun should be able to propel three bb's at a good velocity.
While its cool to know that your gun is shooting three bb's at a time, I can't imagine it being anymore effective when it comes to hunting. Chances are, no more than one bb would hit the intended target, so you might as well just use a bigger pellet then a small bb, if only one projectile will hit its mark.
However, if ever I get a chance at a cluster of birds, I'd like to fire off that 3 bb shot just to see if I could get multiple hits.
Could probably even do 4 bb's at a time, but I might have a hard time fitting them into the cartridge. |
