i understand somewhat that a flat top piston will increase velosity, through the same number of strokes, but i dont understand why.. why is that ?

The reduced volume in the compression chamber along with the lower deflection rate of the metal faced piston allows the pressure to spike higher than is possible in the stock configuration.

Manufacturing molded plastic pieces for kids bbguns is ALOT less expensive than manufacturing precisely machined top grade metal parts designed to be assembled into adult high power level airguns.

A 1377 is $50 retail and costs less than $20 to manufacture while a Sharps rifle was $500-$600 years ago when they were still being built and easily cost $400 to manufacture.

The Parker-Hale Dragon and Daystate MSP rifles cost way more than the Sharps and were another level above the Sharps in materials and were hand finished.

Americans could buy firearms without much problem {until the relatively recent 'gun ban' mentality} so paying thousands for a kids bbgun only appealed to a small minority of shooters or collectors.

Some of us 'bbgun' types like to hone our skills with match guns or field target style spring sporters or PCPs etc. Some are used for pesting or small game.

Myself and several friends do some of all of the above, and once in a while when time allows, a few of us might even get together for a weekend of bbgun fun. Giant Grin
