Here is my newest Carbine/Pistol
When I received the Pistol I tore it down, de-burred, polished tube where Hammer slides, removed spacer ring from tube, drilled out gauge block slightly, drilled exhaust port to .113, and transfer port to .110, drilled and tapped RVA (so I can replace springs without removing), re-crowned and polished barrel, angle drilled ports in baffle for stripper effect, polished all trigger contacts, reshaped trigger and blued all trigger parts.
Then I tuned it!
All I can Say is WOW!!
.040 x 2" Hammer spring
21 AVG FPE with JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy 18.
all 16 shots within 94%
Standard deviation 14.
fill to 2900PSI
refill at ~2200 ''
Now I need to tune for target practice with Crosman Premiers. |

Been thinking of getting one of those for animal control work. Need something in that size when I have to look around in attics or crawls. Sounds like it definitely has the power I would need. Now to convince the wife I need another air rifle/carbine/pistol. |

Good luck, Mike Lanum! At least you use your for work, so you've got that going for you. I have a tough time convincing my wife that I need to feed my addiction from time to time... |

What are you taking down in an attic that would need 20FPE? If you miss with this much power it will go through about 1.5 inches of Douglas Fur at about 25 feet. |

The biggest thing would be coon. I honestly don't think I would ever NEED to use something like that, but it would be nice to have it as an option. Not a lot of places you can go to get out of the way of a ticked off coon when your in tight spots like attics or crawl spaces. I'd want something short and maneuverable with plenty of power to stop one if it ever came down to it. Of course I'd have to shoot it a lot in the back yard to get proficient with it so I don't see a down side to having one. |

I have dispatched quite a few raccoons with air rifles. Most in the 25-30lb range. That being said I would not want to go up against a raccoon in an attic with less than 40 FPE.(or at all) I would actually prefer around 53FPE fulfilling the 1.5 FPE per pound rule of thumb. That is the power my Discovery is tuned to. They have tough skulls, behind the ear or through chest for lung heart is all that puts them down humanely and reliably. You could get that out of the pistol but only for far less shot string. Then theirs the fear of shooting through something you don't want to.
As for the back yard fun, its my favorite air rifle, light, maneuverable, and a fair amount of power. |
