I'm downright anal about ballistics and have done some serious work
with modern firearm handgun h.p. ammo using b-gel.
Once I did a test using b-gel and every brand of .22 r.f. h.p. ammo I could buy. It was a lot of shooting and b-gel.
Being winter here I didn't feel like making a batch of b-gel to test a couple of h.p. pels in .22 caliber.
I had a big block of modling clay so used that.
It's not a fair representation of tissue but it is consistant and repeatable.
I tested the Premier 14.3 gr. h.p and the Polymag b-tip 16.0 gr. pel at 20 yards using my Walther Talon break barrel. Both pels are accurate in my .22 pel rifles.
I shot two of each and was surprised that penetration was 5 inches.
I opened the block of clay and found both Primiers expaned a bit to about
.26" and the P-mag literally turned inside out.
One wonders if the pels will to the same on tough small game like squirrels?
Velocity from my Talon is right at 900 f.p.s.
