Hello Gang,

After watching Rick Eutsler's review of the Benjamin Discovery PCP airgun, I'm rejecting it on the basis of muzzle report only, to say nothing of having to recharge the reservoir after a limited number of shots, like having to recharge an all-electric car after a limited number of miles.

By cocking a gas or spring piston airgun, I'm recharging it for every shot, and I'll always have my "tank" with me, which is the surrounding atmosphere!

His review of the Benjamin Trail NP2 resulted in a decibel reading of 95 db at the muzzle, compared with 116 db for the Discovery, making the PCP 21 decibels louder, which is appreciable, and totally unsuitable for backyard use.

The low db level of the NP2 is due to the efficient multi-chamber suppressor in its barrel shroud.

Still, the Trail's muzzle energy of 19-20 FPE should be enough to satisfy my backyard plinking needs.

Cheers,
Wadcutter Hal

. Look at a Marauder. Easily 19-20 fpe and 25+ shots even in .177 and quieter than an NP.

I hear ya! I am selling my Condor tomorrow because I have to either charge
it with a SCUBA tank or pump it by hand.

HEY BOB,

As you advised, I looked a the Marauder in .22 cal, and according to the PA specs, it's in the "low-to-medium" loudness category, the same as the NP2 in .22 cal, and quieter than the NP.

That's certainly acceptable to me noise-wise, but I still reject the PCP principle, even if it made no noise at all!

I don't have to keep looking at a pressure gauge on my gunstocks, because I always know what my pressure is between shots: 14.7 psi.

Since I live in the High Desert at 3000 ft, my atmospheric pressure is even less, but cocking my springers always assures me that my air chamber pressure is proper, and is always the same, shot after shot, never tapering off.

So I'm happy for those who enjoy the PCP route...it's just simply not for me!

Are those Van de Graff generators in the background?

HEY MENTOLIO,

Yes, they are VDG machines...I used to have four of 'em, but I dismantled the big 1.16 Megavolt unit, and its 30" terminal is now a backyard garden orb.

I like the pneumatic powerplant tough i have always said NO to the PCP.

For me Pumpers are the ideal. Nothing external refill, good shot to shot consistancy once tuned, none of the springer problems, and powerful enough for the hunting that I do.

I have never understood the desire to add the weight of an external pump and tanks to your pack for your gun when a pumper saves so much weight and space in comparison. How is it that people hike for days with a PCP plus Pump strapped to there backs?

I kind of like the idea of mountain biking through the woods with my Condor
and hill pump having 127 fpe at hand and self powered.

Have a nice lunch, spot some squirrels out at 95-150 yards and a few Kodiaks later
it's 12 squirrel stew.

A lot less commotion and attention getting than the Ruger 1022
