I think some grip like stuff in combination with a bit of carving

I like this stuff for grip areas. It is a thick, rubber shelf liner from Lowes (a DIY place). Comes in light brown also. Goes on with double-faced tape. Stretches to conform to compound curves. Keeps your cheek and hands toasty warm in the winter. I keep the patterns on my computer, and when it gets frayed on the edges I just replace it.

Awesome!

They don't sell stuff like that over here at DIY's.

And @ your previous post I would say: Creative use of low end software. Mr. Green I'm not fond of any MS thing, but bound to use it because, well, everyone's doing it!

Good luck with your job. May I by the way suggest a soft matte finish in stead of a shiny one? I think it will add a lot to the classic look. Wink

Low end? You're talking to a guy that owns five (5) Commodores.

Re: finish - I agree. Matte is the way to go.

Mr. Green

I own a Mac, allthough that doesn't really make me happy either.

I'm not good with electronics, allthough I hugely make use of them. Neutral

I'm still in the "design phase." Which is to say I'm thinking through how I will proceed.

I'm confident that I can shape the stock's exterior, it's the inletting that I'm thinking about. The old fashioned way would be to blacken the metal with candle soot and keep removing wood until it fits (i.e., no blackened high spots on the wood).

I have a router table, and have also done overarm routing with the drill press. Since I can't get a router bit that exactly matches the compression tube, another option might be to machine the wood so the sides and bottom fit, and then fill in the rest. I bedded a Mendoza with epoxy wood filler and cooking spray for mold release, and was happy with the results.

Then there are the mounting screws. The one by the trigger is vertical, so that's easy. The two by the tube fork are slanted. I have a radial arm (compound) drill press, and I'm trying to come up with a fixture that will let me drill those holes. What I want to do is chop the head off a (same thread) screw, chuck it in the drill, and screw it into the hole. Then clamp everything in place and replace the screw with a drill bit. Then clamp the inletted stock to the action and drill down through the same axis.

Maybe rickyjr1954 has some suggestions - from his photos it looks like he's been there before.

The guns are beauties but they are complete rip off Smiley War Boozing It

If they are a "complete rip off" as you claim then you must know of elsewhere to get the same quality and power for much less?

He certainly does nice work. I don't know that the price is a "ripoff," since he has to charge for his time (and uniqueness), but they are mightily expensive. Especially for a gun I would never dare use for fear of scratches.
