I love my BSA huntsman RGB scope ,but It just wont magnify far enough.
I had attempted to shoot light a match head with a pellet from 40 feet, but I could not see the match til through my scope.
So I decided I need a better one.
So what scope would you put on a marauder (or similer gun that has the range of the Marauder) If you had a $200 or less budget.
Thanks in advance. |

those are both the same....4-16.
then you want 6-24 or 8-24.
8-32.... |

yes by 8x more.
the final #-objective lense -gives the field of view.
56mm is a larger view diameter than 40mm.
not maginification.
6-24 is VERY close up at 24x.(the target is magnified 24x)
when i nail 12ga shells at 50+ yards i'm at 16x.it's good enough for me.
24x you should be able to see a rodent head at 75 yards. but with the higher x one small movement and you lose sight of the target.
also some scopes with higher magnification have crappy eye relief (the amount of distance your eye must be from the scope to see through the scope) |

I put a Leapers 6-24x50AO mildot illuminated reticle on my .22 Marauder. It is 100 bucks at Pyramyd, $108 at OpticsPlanet with free shipping. I have that scope on my two 350Ms and WFH .25, also. I like em because they are relatively inexpensive, multipurpose, pretty good quality, and can go on many of the springers that I own.
I can zoom in on something to identify it I want, or scan on the lower magnifications. In bright daylight, 24x gets a tiny bit gray and very slightly blurry. In lower light the gray and blurryness gets a little worse. The useable magnification without graying/blurring is up to about 20x.
I zoom in on ground squirrels out at 100~120yrds to make sure that they are indeed ground squirrels, put the scope on 6x and use the last mildot or the bar right under the 6th mildot to shoot ground squirrels out at 100~120yrds with Kodiaks/Baracuda Match pellets. Whole lotta fun...but the wind and any movement on my part moves the POI around. If I use Crosman Premiers or JSBs I can put it on 8x and use the 4th/5th/6th mildot, but the wind tosses the pellets around worse than the kodiaks. And then at close range I can use 12~20x if I want to. |

The only problem I can see is that the close focus is only 15 yards.... which pretty much means you can't use it indoors (unless you have a big garage).... Interesting to note that even in bright daylight it is starting to "grey out".... but I guess that makes sense with only a 2mm exit pupil at 24X....
I personally think anything past about 20X (OK, maybe 24X) is a waste on an Airgun.... that's like looking at a ground squirrel at 5 yards (through a paper towel roll tube) when you are at 100 yards.... The only exception is for Field Target, where the higher magnification allows better range-finding ability (using the focus).... Those guys sometimes use 10-50 X scopes....

The 6-24x56 SWAT version goes down to 10 yards, so it's just a little fuzzy indoors (ie basements) at 25 ft. A 5 yd minimum would of been perfect. |

Yes, and it's twice the price of the 6-24 x 50.... so I'm sure it's a much better scope overall....

The price is what kept me away from the 6-24x56 in the first place. Although at some point in time I would like to buy one, or the 8-32x56AO with 30mm tube. Would have to use the alternate recieving route too, so the Financial Head wouldnt catch me.
Dang...that scope price is half a Marauder. |

Yeah, but you'll love it, especially when you go long.
Just added the scope knob from Hans Apelles, http://ateam.100free.com/Glossary.htm, now making changes for yardage is a no brainer.

How do you not knock off the zero when you sling the rifle on your back?
EDIT: looks like there's no locking ring on your elevation... |
