Okay, my son THe Iron Turtle is modifying his 2289G. THe first mods we made are a 24" lapped recrowned barrel, a steel breech, and the adjustable trigger spring. THe stock is also now permanently mounted to help with rigidity. THe pump rod is being replaced with one made out of hardened and tempered tool steel. What's my next step? What will give me the most gain, while still being functional enough for a 13 year old?

The most gains?

Well stuff the piston (from what you say you still have the original piston).

Then do a full ACP Conversion. That is a little bit of work and would put the gun out of commision for a few days, though it does support the greatest gains. Also it improves effeciency by a lot.

Replace the spring inside the valve with a lighter one. This will allow you to shove more air in the valve. The hammer spring from a Benjamin Discovery will release the air more efficiently. Also, while the valve is apart round off the right angle inside the exhaust port. If you have any questions regarding the mods , let me know and I'll walk you through it. good luck

Use a flat-top piston kit.
