So, my son thought he would be helpful and decided to oil our Crosman Phantom. Problem is, he used way too much oil. Is there a way to clean out the excess oil without tearing it completely apart? |

I'll have to disagree with Nightshade on this one,..
IF You have an air compressor, You can get rid of the oil with "Simply Green" and blow it out and then relube to Your spec. |

Did he put excessive oil in the chamber or on the spring? |

I guess just the spring. He took off the stock and squirted it all over the spring mechanism. Enough that it was dripping down the stock after he put it away. Some must've gotten into the chamber though, because it's dieseling like mad. |

Take it out of the stock and hose it down with real brakleen. (it needs to say "Non Flammable"
Hose down the chamber as well then blow it out with compressed air. let it air out for a day then re lube properly
I guarantee it will not damage the type of seal material used in a Phantom. |

Careful with the brakleen- depending on how well the bluing is done, it may wash off if you wipe anything with wet brake cleaner on it- let it 'air dry' without touching it. |

Ya thanks Eric, I forgot to mention that.
My phantoms and quests are okay with brakleen but it has wiped the finish right off some parts of a 1377. (easier to reblue that way
And be sure to wipe down every inch with a silicone rag, etc, after the treatment. the brakleen with remove every trace of protective oil film. |

In for a penny in for a pound.
There is no way to clean any gun that is dripping in oil short of at least some disassembly. |

Thanks. A bit of Simple Green, an air compressor and relube worked great. Appreciate it. |

OK... Here's my penny
His son was helping and over did the oil job,... my thought is anywhere "oil" can go... so can "Simple Green" and especially with an extra Turbo kick via Air comppresor, all excess oil would go.
Ofcourse, it will not be a Completely sweet job as tear down and reassembly would be but, all in all, My thought was it would do a good enough job, just not a show room job you know...
Peace Jeff
PS. Hopefully this penny will added up to a pound...? |

How to plan to remove the "simple green" residue when it dries???
Or do you plans to leave it to get all gummy sticking parts and attracting dirt???? |
