Hi guys. I'm new to the forums.

I bought this gun, crossman quest 1000x, http://www.crosman.com/airguns/rifles/break-barrel/C1K77X , from pyramid air. Basically I was shooting as a kid, and wanted to relive the fun times. I had this gun for close to a year now. Though, I don't shoot it much, instead I shoot my IZH 61 a lot. Problem is that quest 1000x is more accurate with iron sights than with a scope!

Basically, at 15 feet distance, you could get a 1.5 to 2 inch group out of it.

I pin pointed the problem. When you hold the gun between your knees, and move barrel left to right, you could see it move. Just a tiny bit. But that's enough to affect the accuracy.

Thus my question. How to make this gun accurate? If it at all possible.

Hm, shims between the breech and the receiver might help, or just turning the screw a bit tighter.

I turned the screw, just now, while waiting for a response. At 15 feet accuracy went from 2 inch groups to half inch groups. Still not enough.

I wonder where I could get shims?

You'll have to make or cut something else down on your own (i.e. thin washers)- I don't know of any decent replacements available. People have cut shims out of aluminum cans in the past- and this apparently works A-Ok.

Since the Crosman Quest/Phantom/G1 are all cousins, you probably have the same setup as my G1. There are two plastic washers between the breech block and compression tube yoke. They get mashed pretty quickly. Also, the barrel pivot screw head rests against the breech block, so every time you cock it the breech block turns the screw. That screw does not clamp both sides of the yoke together. It makes sense that if the barrel is flopping around, then sights mounted on the barrel will work better than a scope mounted on the compression tube.

I got rid of the plastic washers and replaced them with steel from the hardware store. I opened up the I.D. a little with a Dremel, and ground the thickness to fit by hand with a carborundum sharpening stone:
http://www.airgunhome.com/agforum/viewtopic.php?t=1760&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

That made things a little tighter and smoother, but the screw kept coming loose. (Make a small scratch or use a drop of paint near the screw head's slot to see if yours is loosening like mine did). Blue Loctite slowed it down, but I had to add a setscrew to finally stop it from rotating:

You might also consider polishing the muzzle crown. If you've never done it, it can sound exotic and difficult. It's actually simple and cheap:

Introducing a choke at the muzzle worked well on the G1. If you get that far, give a shout and we'll walk you through it.

Hey salvia, I found this forum when looking for info on my crosman quest that im getting for christmas, and after reading your entire post on your g1, i sneaked in and opened it up today Mr. Green and i saw that i have a trigger similar to the gtx/grt triggers, i think it has quite a smooth pull, and was wondering how i could compare that to the regular trigger. Eg: some way to measure lbs required, also i am thinking about modding my gun in quite a few ways similar to your g1 Smile

In addition, my Phantom (same as the Quest) had the hole in the pivot bushing off center.... Even if you loctited the screw, the bushing could spin, causing a POI change.... Rolling Eyes

I had to make a new bushing that was concentric, and I used one steel washer and one plastic.... I fitted things so that the steel washer was on the left side under the head of the screw and clamped the bushing to prevent it from rotating.... The original plastic washer was used on the right side.... I also used a set-screw to prevent the pivot screw from loosening.... NO MORE PROBLEMS.... Mr. Green

The updated trigger is copied partially from the Woodward GTX II trigger- not an exact copy, but close.

As for "pull"- most people go pretty low-tech to measure it- a fish scale.

By chance has anyone seen photos of the new Crosman trigger? (Aside from the one on the box, that is.)

I have the gun with the new trigger (and also the steel load bearing/spacer i think) And if i can find a camera, i will upload a pic of it tommorow, its black and has lines through it and is solid unlike the hollow classic crosman trigger. Also ill see if i can measure it with some sort of hanging scale. Thanks for the quick responses btw, and i hope to be doing a lot more posting on this site in the future.

I have been looking at the Crosman Quest 1000x, watching some videos on it and wondering what the greatest distance anyone has use it unmodded at and how tight of a group they can get at the longest distance?

Also what would be an inexpensive reliable scope for the Crosman Quest 1000x?

Can't see in the picture- but are there two adjustment screws in the trigger itself?

Look here at the "genuine article":

Notice the set screws in the horizontal part of the blade? This is where the critical adjustments are made for these triggers. If the Crosman unit does not have them, the GTX II still has it's place, even on the newest guns.

Thanks for the photos! I was curious about that.

It still has the same adjustment screw peeking out behind the trigger, and still has the trigger return spring. The replacement triggers don't use those parts. It looks like they copied the appearance of an aftermarket trigger, but didn't change the mechanism - simply replacing the stamped trigger with a cast or forged one.

Thanks again for your efforts.

Yeah, i think its just the same trigger with a new look, there is only one ajustment screw, and its not on the trigger.. kinda useless.. but after i took out the return spring it was a very smooth pull.. i wonder if it would work without the spring.. i did put the spring back, but i bent it slightly to offer a shorter first stage.
