In my homes state of Maryland, you may legally purchase and own a silencer. All you have to do is apply for a class III license and pay a heavy tax. Really not a big deal.

You can also hunt deer, boar, bear, etc. with a bow and arrow but it wouldn't be my first choice for home defense.
I tried stuffing one in my nightstand, but it just wasn't quite the same after that ...

The seals aren't really "stressed" by Co2- seals are generally a compression idea of some sort- i.e. a gasket. About the worst that can happen is that a seal takes on the shape of something ...
